Nothing makes sense anymore. It never made any sense to begin with. Welcome to a place where you may encounter everything that makes no sense.  Many incomprehensible mysteries lurk in the hearts of men that can only be purified with the power of will. Medicine kills the will and quiets the intrusions, rendering the subject hollow and submissive. [[Others]] break in to our minds and implant themselves in it. [[Psychic Energy]] attracts them to targets unable to resist with their will.

Things from [[The Dark]] exist beyond our material realm. They claw at the edges of our minds. They are the blur at the corner of your eye that wishes to take you entirely in its grasp. They have many names and many forms in our minds. Our ancestors have encountered them since the beginning of time itself. They were [[Daemon]] and [[Djinn]], [[Spirits]] and [[Succubus]], [[Faeries]] and [[Phantoms]],  [[Ghosts]] and [[Gods]]. All they desire is a gateway to the material world - one which each of us possess - our mind.

In this setting, [[Psychiatry]] and [[Psychology]] fail to see the underlying source of human suffering - [[The Dark]]. Modern solutions for the mind quiets and sooths outsider voices and in turn entirely separates the psyche from its source. [[Soma]] severs the mind of an individual from [[The Dark]] entirely. These poor hollow creatures exist in the world in the never-ending pursuit of fulfillment, recognized by the [[Gnostics]] as [[Hylics]]. [[Others]] which inhibit [[The Dark]] find anchorage in our plane of existence through our psyche. They inhibit different aspects, ranging from spiritual (e.g. [[Gods]]) to sexual (e.g. [[Succubus]]) energy and manifest themselves through dominated individuals. 
 
Those whom seek out the Dark may do so through initiation to Cults of Knowledge. Those [[Seekers]] wish entry to an understanding of the Dark they cannot comprehend. Few attempt the journey on their own. They may grow powerful enough to gather a following and attempt their own mockery of one of the [[Elder Cults]]. Most fall to despair and madness, later to be cast aside to be devoured by the entities that are in the Dark if they were not lucky to have been banished by society to the confines of a padded white cell and fed
