Template:R

Marks a statement with how far you should trust it. This is the single most important template on the wiki: an untagged claim is not a neutral claim, it is an unexamined one.

Use

{{R|leaked}}
{{R|firsthand|by=Nigel|date=1998}}
{{R|contested|note=the Ferghana account puts this fifty years earlier}}

First parameter

The tag. One of firsthand

unverified
contested
leaked
defector
inherited
⚠ warning
synthetic?

. Anything unrecognised falls back to unverified, which is also what you get if you leave it blank.

by

Who is making the claim. A handle, a cult, a file number. Never invent one.

date

When the claim was made — not when the event happened.

note

Shown on hover. Use it for the specific doubt, not a general one.

Place the tag at the end of the sentence it applies to, not the start. A recruit should be able to read the claim first and judge it second.

The tags, their meanings and their colours all live in Module:Reliability. Add one there and it appears in Template:Legend on its own.
