The Remembered

From SchitzoPunk Wiki
Read this before anything else

Every other page here doubts what it says. This one does not, and the suspension is deliberate.

A name is not a claim. Keeping one costs nothing and proves nothing, and we are not going to tag it.

The wiki documents. This section does something else: it keeps the names of people who made things for others and did not survive doing it.

That is the entire criterion and it is narrower than it sounds. Not seekers who were right — most of them were not. Not seekers who were important. People who made something and gave it away.

Why this is here

It is not sentiment and it is not a memorial wall bolted onto a reference work. It is the only evidence the wiki holds for its own central finding.

Others states that nothing out of The Dark has ever been described as good, and that anything good in a person's life was put there by a person — manufactured locally, at cost, and not replenished from anywhere. That is a large claim and the rest of the wiki cannot support it. Every other section documents what takes.

This section is the other column. The names below are what "at cost" means, stated as specific people rather than as a principle, and a recruit who has read the Long War and then reads this has been shown the whole argument. firsthand · Gershon

The rule

You honour the making, not the correctness.

Nobody on this list has to have been right. Several of them were badly wrong, some of them in ways that are documented elsewhere on this wiki in the ordinary tagged and doubted manner, and that work continues unaffected. The two activities are kept separate on purpose: an entry can dismantle a person's ideas at length, and their name still stands here, and neither page owes the other anything.

The reliability tags do not apply to the names. Not as an oversight — as a statement. A tag answers "how far should I trust this," and a name is not asking to be trusted. There is a name, what they made, and who it was for.

They still apply to the wiki's reasoning about the section, including the paragraph above this one, which is an argument and is tagged accordingly. The distinction is the whole point: we will argue about why this page exists, and we will not argue about the people on it.

The names

King Terry
Built an operating system alone, gave it away, and told everyone exactly what it was for. He was hounded, he was shredded, and he died on the street. What he made still runs. The wiki's Temple Operating System entry treats his work as a breakthrough in the science of prophecy; that entry can be argued with. This one cannot, because it is not making that claim. It is saying that a man built a thing for other people and it cost him everything.

Others belong here. They have not been written down because nobody has written them down.

If you are adding a name: what they made, who they made it for, what it cost. Three sentences is enough. Do not eulogise, do not inflate the work, and do not add someone to make a point about the Dark — this section stops meaning anything the moment it becomes an argument.
